Local Restaurants & Places to Eat around Bristol

wilks Restaurant

1 - 3 Chandos Rd, Bristol BS6 6PG, UK – 0117 973 7999

Can't fault this place and has just won best restaurant in Bristol, which is thoroughly deserved. Had the tasting menu and the wine flight on my visit and the flavours complemented together really well. Staff were very well informed and explained each course as you went through. The wine waitress was equally as informed on her wines. Love coming to this place and will be back soon

I went to Wilks last night with my parents. The food, as others have said, was excellent - extremely high quality and much care and attention had been paid to each course. However, I can't help but think there are other restaurants in Bristol which I would choose over this one next time I'm looking to celebrate a special occasion. Aside from the eye-watering expense, the service was efficient although quite aloof at times. It's a very formal affair compared to other establishments in Bristol and, for me personally, I missed the more relaxed feel. It really depends on what you like from a restaurant but if you're like me and prefer to be able to hold a conversation slightly louder than a hushed whisper and don't want to feel like you're being given the once-over by fellow patrons, I'd look elsewhere.

Greens Restaurant

25 Zetland Rd, Avon, Bristol BS6 7AH, UK – 0117 924 6437

Quite a compact place to eat but very nice food. Service is everything you want nothing more nothing less. Food came in an appropriate amount of time. Prices slightly more than you'd expect for a good steak or lamb, but very much worth it. Would recommend but not go back in a hurry as there are many other places to try on the same stretch of road and near by. Ticked this one off our list.

I went here with my family (8 adults + 2 kids) for a Birthday meal on a Saturday lunch. We were really well looked after. The food was very seasonal with lots of local produce, everything was delicious. Cannot recommend highly enough. It is also very reasonably priced (my sisters visiting from London couldn't believe it!). Thank you Greens.

Poco Tapas Bar

45 Jamaica St, Bristol BS2 8JP, UK – 0117 923 2233

We love Poco. This is a great little place in the heart and soul of Bristol. Poco is famous for its small dishes and excellent attitude towards food. The walls are covered in pictures and information about where the food is grown / reared in the areas surrounding Bristol and you do get a sense that they genuinely care, rather than it just being a gimmick. The plates are varied and delicious, well worth several visits to cover all the available options and ratio of veggie and meat dishes is balanced and all are delicious. There is a short but interesting cocktail menu, along with wines and the usual local beers and ciders. Last night's favourite was the tequila and marmalade cocktail: 5*. The seating at the front is very informal, some face the ever- entertaining people's republic of Stokes Croft and some are design for small groups to sit around on high stools. At the back is more intimate and cosy, with wooden tables configured to meet the evenings diners. Great for a romantic 2 or a party of 10 equally. Overall a great place with the only gripe being the wait on the ever popular cocktails. If it's busy, order drinks straight away or you food might arrive first. As ever, thanks to the team of knowledgeable and friendly staff at Poco.

Not your traditional kind of Spanish tapas meal, as they use local ingredients, but amazing nonetheless. We went on a Saturday night and had the set menu for 2, about 40 quid I think, which was a pretty generous amount of food (8 tapas dishes), and included some pretty impressive plates for a set menu, the mussels and pork belly were the highlights. Definitely worth a visit.
